Interesting sites in Surrounding

The Intermittent Cerknica Lake

On the largest Karstic field in Slovenia, the largest Slovene lake emerges and disappears time and time again - the intermittent Cerknica Lake. Present day visitors find peace and recreational opportunities on the lake's shores, where they can admire the local wildlife, including more than 200 species of birds and rare plants. In winter, the lake's frozen surface invites skaters, whereas in summer, its waters host navigators in sailing boats, surfers and swimmers. The surrounding hills have become a popular take-off destination for parachutists and paragliders.

Bloke Plateau

Harsh and long winters with impassable snowdrifts were the reason for an unusual invention that the locals used for several centuries: Bloke skis.

Lož Valley and Križna Cave

Križna Cave is one of the most fascinating water caves. Initially, it became well-known because of the numerous finds of cave bear fossils.

Snežnik Castle

In the 13th century, the knights of Schneeberg built a castle that later passed from one owner to another, from the noble Lambergs and count Lichtenberg to the Duke of Schonburg. Despite its turbulent history, it is still preserved as it was decorated and furnished by its previous owners in the 18th and 19th centuries.
